A Collection of Posters Designed by Earl Newman for Pacific Ocean Park  (p. 7)

Once upon a time there was a wonderful amusement park called Pacific Ocean Park, or P.O.P.  It was on the beach between Venice and Santa Monica, California, and extended on a pier into the Pacific Ocean.

This special digital printing of the original P.O.P. posters coincide with the release of the book Pacific Ocean Park: The Rise and Fall of Los Angeles’ Space Age Natural Pleasure Pier by Christopher  Merritt and Domenic Priore (Feral House, 2014).

The series covers all 6 of the different “Lands” at P.O.P. including Neptune’s Courtyard, The Sea Circus, The International Promenade, Ports of P.O.P., Fisherman’s Cove and Mystic Isles, plus the cover design P.O.P.

The original printings in 1961 were hand silkscreened and measured 25 x 35”. They were printed in Earl’s beachfront studio and gallery. Now housing Small World Bookstore, Gallery Venice was located at 1407 Ocean Front Walk, Venice, Ca., in full view of Pacific Ocean Park.
