2008 Ocean Park Blvd Planning

The Ocean Park Blvd. "Green Streets" website, an online resource for information related to the streetscape and sustainable design project that was initiated in March 2008 at the request of the Santa Monica community.

The Ocean Park Blvd. "Green Streets" project seeks to address community concerns related to the scale, character, health and safety, and pedestrian orientation of the portion of the Boulevard between Lincoln Blvd. and Neilson way.  Approximately 3,250 linear feet long, this stretch of Ocean Park Blvd. cuts directly through the heart of the Ocean Park neighborhood and serves as an important gateway to the Pacific Ocean and Santa Monica's beaches.  Its current configuration is often criticized for being unsafe, overbuilt and poorly landscaped-concerns that precipitated the City to initiate the public outreach process that is currently underway.  The expected outcome of the outreach phase is a concept plan that will contemplate significant changes to this portion of the Boulevard, including best management practices in sustainability.

  • Downloadable boards and diagrams (presented at the March 3rd, 2008 workshop)
  • A message board where one can read comments posted by community members.  Send us an email and we will post your comments!
  • The project timeline and funding strategy
  • Announcements about upcoming workshops and events

This project may become the model of a sustainable street for all of Southern California. A broad and inclusive range of Santa Monicans could contribute to the plan's elaboration and refinement.
